Future of mobility in Ulm: New era with electric buses

The city of Ulm sets a clear signal for sustainable and future -oriented mobility in public transport. With the introduction of two new Mercedes-Benz Ecitaro electric buses, the Ulm/Neu-Ulm Stadtwerke will initiate a new era. The electric buses are part of a larger order of a total of 14 vehicles that will be integrated into urban traffic in the coming months.

The switch to electrically operated buses marks an important step in environmental protection and efficiency in local public transport. The electric buses will operate a fifth of the entire bus fleet of the Ulm Stadtwerke with green electricity and thus make a significant contribution to reducing air pollutants such as soot particles and nitrogen oxides in the city center.

A crucial aspect in the introduction of electric buses is the charging infrastructure. In particular, stops along the route will make it possible to load the buses on the go in order to meet the demanding mountainous line courses in Ulm. The installation of this charging infrastructure on the final stops is already in full swing and will be completed by the end of this year.

The managing director of Stadtwerke Ulm/Neu-Ulm, Klaus Eder, emphasizes the importance of switching to electric buses as a contribution to environmental protection. He sees this a strong signal for the commitment of the municipal utilities in the area of sustainable mobility.

In addition to the ecological advantages, the new electric buses also offer an increase in comfort and security for passengers. The municipal utilities have ensured that no compromises were made when equipping the buses. In addition, measures for accessibility are implemented, such as holding rods with touch patterns in areas for visually impaired passengers.

The implementation of the electric buses in Ulm was enabled by promoting the Federal Ministry of Digital and Transport. These funding covers a large part of the additional costs for emission -free drive and enable the city works to implement their investments in environmentally friendly mobility.

This initiative in Ulm is part of the larger trend for electrifying public transport in German cities. With the introduction of electric buses, Ulm sets an example for other cities that also want to switch to environmentally friendly means of transport.
