On Friday evening there was a tragic incident on the Danube between Ulm and Neu-Ulm, in which a young man got on the river while swimming. The dramatic experiences of two eyewitnesses put a highlight of the dangers that exist in trends when swimming.

Swimming in the Danube: An unpredictable risk

Eyewitnesses report

Martina Henning, who was near the bank in Neu-Ulm, described how she witnessed the incident and had to watch in a feeling of helplessness how a young man drowned. She explained that all people in normal clothes, some of them with long pants, went into the water, which made the situation even more dangerous.

Another eyewitness that was only one meter from one of the saved people reported: "He was breathing" while she was on an emergency call. She explained that a third man jumped into the water to help them, but only came back with one while the other did not show up. These stories underline the moments of fate in the dark and illustrate how quickly the situation can worsen.

The search continues

After the at night of the search, the emergency services seem to be looking for the missing again on Saturday morning, supported by a police helicopter.
