Young sprinter from Rostock: Pauline Richter starts at U20 World Cup in Peru
Pauline Richter, who is just 17 years old, experiences a remarkable career in athletics. The talented sprinter from the 1st LAV Rostock has celebrated great success in the past twelve months and will now start at the U20 World Cup in Lima, Peru. "It's all very crazy. I didn't expect it at all, but it's really nice. The U20 World Cup is now the icing on the cake for me," she says. This World Cup, which begins on August 26, represents a highlight of its previous sporting career.
Pauline, which had to suspend for a long time due to a Achilles tendon injury last year, started successfully last year at the U18 European Championship in Banská Bystrica, where they won a bronze medal over the 200 meters in a time of 23.50 seconds. Now she has the chance to prove herself over 4 × 400 meters in the season. This decision is not surprising, because thanks to her impressive time, Pauline takes second place on the German U20 best list.
Challenges before the WM
Despite her success and anticipation for the competition, the young athlete recently had to deal with a slight cold that she had contracted in the preparatory camp of the German Athletics Association in Erfurt. "But I feel better again, I am on the rising branch. I hope that I can now survive the flights well and then perform in Peru in top shape," she explains optimistically. On Wednesday she will fly together with other German athletes from Berlin via Paris to Lima.
Traveling is an exciting experience for Pauline. "Traveling is already going on, but flying is still very exciting and exciting. I always have to concentrate that I walk to the right gate," she says. She has some lucky charms for the competition, including a chain and bracelet of her family and a lucky pig that has a special meaning for her.
Focus on the 400 meters
Although the 200 meters are their favorite route, the 400 meters also feels a challenge and at the same time fun. "The 400 meters are still so long, but I also enjoy them," says Pauline. This summer she reached all her season goals and even undercut her personal best over 200 meters. "It just went perfectly, although there are still a lot of things that I can continue to work. But I'm still young."
For the upcoming competitions in Lima, Pauline has made its best for the season and wishes that everything will work harmoniously. She is extremely proud to be able to represent Germany twice this year: "It is something very special if you can start your country and even with two international highlights in one year. I'm a bit proud of it."
Pauline's way from the injury-related setback to the heights of international athletics is multifaceted. Your access to the challenges and your unshakable spirit make you an inspiring figure in sport. Lima will show how the 17-year-old denies the competition and whether she can realize her ambitions at an international level.
The role of youth promotion in German athletics
The development of athletes like Pauline Richter illustrates the importance of systematic youth promotion in German sport. The German Athletics Association (DLV) has implemented various programs to identify and support talented young athletes. These initiatives range from regional bases to training camps to special competitions that bring the offspring to the international standards.
An example of such funding is talent promotion over the "federal base", which provide targeted resources in order to enable young athletes to develop optimal development. In recent years, it has been shown that these measures have fruits: German youth are increasingly gaining medals in international competitions and improves their services, which is reflected in the results at international championships.
Current trends in athletics
In athletics there are many trends to be observed that affect both training and competition design. An increasing professionalization of sport has also found its way into the youth area. Athletes such as Pauline Richter are faced with an application spectrum of new training methods based on scientific knowledge. These include the analysis of training data using modern technologies, the elaboration of individualized training plans and the focus on the mental strength of the athletes.
Mental training is becoming increasingly important to prepare athletes for the pressure of international competitions. Techniques such as visualization and mindfulness training are now part of many training programs. These approaches help athletes to improve not only their physical skills, but also their psychological resilience.
