Candidate fight in the district council: CDU relies on servants, AfD dispensed with

tension before the district presidential election

The upcoming constituent meeting of the district council of the Mecklenburg Lake District ensures tension, since the CDU wants to nominate its candidate Thomas Diener as president again. Frank Benischke, chairman of the CDU district parliamentary group, is confident that servant is chosen with a large majority.

political support for servants

The candidate Thomas Diener already receives commitments from various political camps. The Alliance Sahra Wagenknecht (BSW) and the SPD have promised their support while the AfD announced that it does not set its own opposite candidates.

The CDU has strengthened its parliamentary group for experienced members such as Rainer Tietböhl, former head of the State Farmers' Association, and Arno Sül from the free voters. Together with five new members, 15 experienced district council members and five newcomers act under the CDU sign. In addition, 28 knowledgeable residents will represent the interests of the Christian Democrats in the committees.

New procedure for filling the committees

A new procedure for filling the committees will be used at the upcoming district meeting. The members of the committees are no longer elected individually, but the seats are assigned to the factions depending on the strength. The political groups then have two weeks to distribute the posts internally. This change was introduced because the social committee of the district council had to be elected six times in the past election period due to the lack of consensus.

In accordance with the statutes, the constituent session is not directed by the previous district president, but by the oldest member of the district council. Wilfried Böhme, 75 years old and a member of the BSW faction, will lead this important session. Born in Hamburg, he has been living in Malchin since 2000.
