Działacze klimatyczne protestują przeciwko LNG Terminal na Rügen
new generation is committed to LNG terminal-a critical perspective
Last weekend in Sassnitz, on the island of Rügen, protests against the planned terminal for liquid gas (LNG) took place. The campaign was organized by the group's last generation climate activists. About 150 people took part in a demonstration above the Mukran Seehafen. The last generation expressed its concerns about the LNG terminal on Rügen, as in her opinion it could lead to massive environmental degradation. Despite the resistance of the local population, the construction of the terminal is promoted. The activists set a clear signal by presenting a banner with the inscription "Clean Gas - dirty lie" in canoes near the terminal.
Policja interweniowała podczas protestów i nosiła 18 osób z ulicy, a 20 zostało wymawianych. Four activists were even taken into custody because they opposed the instructions of the officials. Despite these incidents, the vigil on Sunday went without any problems.
The federal government defends the LNG terminal and argues that it contributes to ensuring energy supply. By expanding its own import infrastructure for LNG, Germany wants to become more independent of Russian gas, especially in view of the continuing conflict in Ukraine.
The activists of the last generation plan further actions to draw attention to the environmental impact of the terminal. Their commitment illustrates the voice of the young generation, which is committed to protecting the environment and a sustainable future.
