Neubrandenburg honors GDR victims: commemorative plaque on Stasi building inaugurated

In Neubrandenburg, a plaque was inaugurated that is reminiscent of the victims of the SED and GDR dictatorship. The table, which was financed by a private donation from the VOS state association MV, is located on the graffiti wall near the former Stasi complex. Evelyn Zupke, the federal representative for the victims of the SED dictatorship, expressed her sympathy at the ceremony and emphasized the need to keep the memory of the innocent victims alive. She recalled that many affected people still suffer from the consequences of the injustice suffered.

The board bears the message: "To commemorate the politically persecuted and victims who experienced persecution, repression and violence during the SED rule." André Rohloff, deputy VOS state chairman, clearly described the psychological and physical agony, which many experienced through the constant interrogations and the nightly checks. This building, which served as an MfS custerey from 1987 to 1990, is currently empty, and the city of Neubrandenburg plans to create a memorial for it. A discussion about the future use of the property takes place on November 6th, in which residents and interested parties are to be integrated. Further details are on www.nordkurier.de to be found.
