Neubrandenburg: Inaugurated new memorial at the Stasi prison!
In Neubrandenburg, a new memorial was inaugurated at the former Stasi prison at Neustrelitzer Straße 120 today. The ceremony, which was visited by citizens, representatives of civil society and the media, served to commemorate the victims of the SED regime. André Rohloff, spokesman for the association of victims of Stalinism, strongly recalled that the horrors of the dictatorship should never be forgotten. "Too many people were imprisoned for the lowest offense and suffered serious abuse during their imprisonment," emphasized Rohloff during the event.
The memorial shows both elements of the Berlin Wall and representations of a Stasi spy. A special plaque, donated by the VOS, complements the installation and is intended to serve as a visible memorial for passers -by. Natalie Weber from the Junge Union emphasized that the memorial location with regard to the future should promote an open and free society. "We have to keep the memories awake and clearly position ourselves against totalitarian ideologies," says Weber. This initiative not only wants to commemorate the past, but also actively stand up for the values of freedom and democracy. Further information is in the article by Strelitzius.com find.
