revolutionary mobile phone mast provides itself with energy
In a groundbreaking development, O2 Telefónica opened the first mobile phone location in Bavaria in Sindlbach in the Neumarkt district in the Upper Palatinate, which works completely self -sufficient from the conventional power supply.
The new transmission mast is supplied with energy from photovoltaic modules and biomethanol fuel cells, which means that the residents of the region have access to the most modern 5G, 4G (LTE) and 2G (GSM) for the first time. This step is part of O2 Telefónica's efforts to eliminate radio sparkles and to promote the network expansion to ensure a comprehensive coverage.
The mobile phone mast in Sindlbach stands as an example of a sustainable mobile phone infrastructure. By using photovoltaic systems, excess electricity is stored in powerful lithium-ion batteries to ensure continuous care. On days with low sunlight, a biomethanol fuel cell guarantees an uninterrupted energy supply that can provide energy for up to two months with a single tank filling.
An innovative system of cloud technology and artificial intelligence automatically regulates the energy requirement between the two energy sources. This enables a significant energy saving of over 13,000 kilowatt hours per year compared to conventional masts, according to O2 Telefónica.
