Severe weather warning in Bavaria: flooding and thunderstorms ahead!
After a number of severe storms who have hit the region in the past few days, the German Weather Service (DWD) has again issued a severe weather warning. Already on Monday there were sudden heavy rain, which also caused considerable damage, and now a new weather situation is predicted that will be shaped by strong thunderstorms and heat.
For Wednesday, the DWD expects intensive thunderstorms, which will primarily affect the north, the middle and south of Germany. Serious storms are expected in northern Bavaria, while heavy rain falls in the north and west. At the same time, people in the east and southeast have to be prepared for extreme warmth. The forecasts show a clear shift in weather that could have profound effects on the region.
affected counties and warning levels
On Wednesday afternoon, numerous counties were placed under the second highest warning level 3. Here are the main affected people who should prepare for possible dangers:
- Eichstätt
- southern part of the district of Neumarkt in the Upper Palatinate
- parts of the Nuremberg Land
- district of Weißenburg - Gunzenhausen
- Kreis Bayreuth
- parts of the districts of Kulmbach and Forchheim
in Eichstätt, a violent storm has already caused chaos: the water masses stood on the streets and the fire brigade had to move up with full commitment to master the situation. Storm gusts and hail strengthened the inconvenience in the region. The delayed movement of the thunderstorm cell meant that many streets became impassable and the residents in Pfünz, a district of Walting, were severely affected.
The warning level 2, which indicates "striking weather", applies to large parts of the Upper Palatinate and to other adjacent regions. Meteorologist Stefan Ochs, known as Wetterhochs, says that the population has to expect showers and thunderstorms that could also lead to local floods. In sunny places, the temperatures could rise to up to 31 degrees, but the winds remain weak and unobtrusive.
The latest weather events are part of a trend that has become clear since summer. Just a few days ago, the region's fire brigades had to massively deploy due to sudden floods, especially in Nuremberg, where numerous drivers had to be saved from flooded underpasses. Such extreme weather conditions are demanding the emergency services and residents alike.
record heat in September?
parallel to the storms, there are also warm, sunny days in prospect. Weather analyzes show temperatures for the last holidays, which are just below 30 degrees Celsius. The heat is even speculated whether September could set new records. Especially for Thursday, there is a fear of air relocation, which is accompanied by strong, gusty winds.
The maximum values could be between 32 and 33 degrees, which is definitely in the area of record values for September. Meteorologist Ochs notes that such conditions occur in regions such as Nice, but have not yet been observed in Germany for a long time.
The weather remains a constant topic in the region, both because of the current storm situations and the upcoming heat period. Residents are well advised to pay attention to the warnings of the DWD and always prepare for sudden swings.
