Paul Zwietnig-Rotterdam celebrates 85th birthday with a great retrospective in Wiener Neustadt
With the 85th birthday of the artist Paul Zwietnig-Rotterdam, he returns to his roots in Wiener Neustadt. In cooperation with the Lower Austria State Collections, the St. Peter Museum is organizing a comprehensive retrospective of his work, which will be shown until October 27, 2024. The exhibition is a wonderful opportunity to experience the impressive development of one of the most important artists in Austria.
The St. Peter Museum An der Sperr celebrates its 200th anniversary with a varied event program that is designed for all age groups. The new permanent exhibition "Ritter" and the interactive exhibition "With and without words", which has already inspired over 8,000 children, are just a few highlights of the second half of the year. The exhibition of the internationally renowned Paul Rotterdam is a central part of this party and is expected with great anticipation.
The art of Paul Rotterdam
with a total of 550 large -format works, 2,000 drawings and numerous print graphics, the exhibition reflects the impressive work balance of the artist. Although Rotterdam is internationally known, his works remained underrepresented in Austria for a long time; The last comprehensive exhibition took place in 2007. It is all the more important that the retrospective is now shown in a profaned church building so that the visitor can enjoy art in a special framework.
Special attention is paid to the large -format works that begin with the "synthetic still lifes" from 1964 and end with the "B" work from 2017. These works of art offer a fresh interpretation of the late Gothic church space and give visitors a deep insight into the artist's different creative periods. In particular, the series "Substance" and "Blenheim" are the focus of the presentation, supplemented by important works such as "Crucifixion" from 1988, which has a certain contemplative mysticism that Dore Ashton has attributed his work.
Rotterdam's ability to design pictures as light sources is a central feature of his art. His works radiate from the center to the area, whereby the light is gradually losing. This combination of mysterious darkness and light -flooded knowledge leads the viewer to think about the deeper meaning of the pictures and ultimately also about the essence of life. The harmony of optical depth, materiality as well as the interplay of shape, color and space contributes to the development of a sensual experience that invites you to linger and think.
The artist presented includes the main works by the artist, which are now made accessible to a wide audience for the first time. Thanks to the generous gift from Rotterdam to the Lower Austria State Collections, this special collection is presented in the unique backdrop of the museum, which offers the ideal framework for such important works of art.
Ticket sales for the exhibition takes place in the Museum St. Peter an der Barragen, in the Kasematten and at the info point in the old town hall. This is an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience the variety of work of a great artist in a historical context.
