Financial driver's license: Students learn clever dealings with money!
In a current project for financial education, tenth graders from KGS Leeste-Esther-Bejarano School received their financial driver's license on Monday. Almost 70 students took part in this program, which is offered in cooperation with the Volksbank Niedersachsen-Mitte and the social debt counseling for Diakonie. Participants who passed the exam received a certificate while others received a certificate of participation.
The financial driver's license has been carried out since at least 2009 and managed by Martina Noetzel. The program taught both theoretical lessons and a practical examination, whereby the goal is to enable the students to handle money clever and sound financial decisions. Insa Mühlenbruch from Diakonie and Stefanie Rühe from Volksbank gave the students insights into practical aspects of financial decisions.
content and exams of the project
The exams took place at the end of 2024 and early January, with up to 21 error points allowed to be allowed. Noah, one participant, expressed that he did not find the exam difficult and already managed his pocket money himself. His classmate Hanna reported that she saved for larger investments and passed the exercise test. The project encourages students to deal with topics such as consumer debt that, according to Mühlenbruch's experiences, can vary greatly - from 500 euros to 12,000 euros. In order to avoid debts, those responsible recommend setting up budget plans and introducing restrictions on consumer behavior.
