Theft alarm: Luxury cars in my thanks to Keyless-GO slightly stolen!
Last weekend were stolen in my two high -quality cars. The thefts occurred in the night from Friday to Saturday and affect vehicles with so-called "Keyless GO" function, which are increasingly criticized.
A Volkswagen Touareg, the value of which is estimated at around 90,000 euros, was stolen in the orthhyweg between 8:00 p.m. and 9:15 a.m. At the same time, a Jeep Wagoneer worth 80,000 euros disappeared on Hafenstraße in Abbüttel. In both deeds, the Central Criminal Service of the Gifhorn Police Inspection leads the investigation and asks witnesses to report information on suspects or vehicles on 05371 9800.
warning of "Keyless-GO" systems
The police draw attention to the dangers of the "Keyless GO" systems, which are susceptible to so-called "relay attacks". In such attacks, criminals extend the key radio signal of the key, which enables them to open and start the car without having the real key in your hand. In this context, the ADAC reports that vehicles with keyless systems are significantly easier to steal than those with conventional radio keys.
In a test of the ADAC, it was found that only 10% of the tested cars were better protected against theft. With over 700 vehicles tested, almost all of them could be easily opened and taken away. Even if the key in the house or the owner is nearby, there is a risk because the thieves often work with devices that extend the signal range.
In order to increase security, experts recommend various precautionary measures. This includes keeping the radio key at home far away from doors and windows and using special protective covers or "Faraday bags" that block the radio signal. Furthermore, it is advisable to deactivate the keyless system if it is not required and pay attention to suspicious people or vehicles.
The ADAC calls on the car manufacturers to secure the vehicle electronics according to the latest safety standards. The introduction of technologies such as Ultra-Wide-Band technology (UWB) could ensure more security, such as at Jaguar Land Rover, which have been installing this technology since 2018.
