Göttingen in turmoil: Protest against lateral thinker demo on February 1!
On Saturday, February 1, 2025, the so -called lateral thinkers are planning a demonstration in Göttingen. 2,000 participants have already been registered, but the police assume around 500 demonstrators. On this occasion, the Göttingen Alliance organized four counter -demonstrations in the city center against the right. This alliance is made up of unions, churches, charities, cultural institutions as well as left -wing policy groups and parties (SPD, Greens, Left, Party).
The alliance supports the nationwide “remains stable” campaign and also plans its own form of action: a donation run for the polylux network for strengthening civil society in the east. Donations should be collected for every 400 meters that cover the lateral thinkers on their route. The idea for this donation run goes back to protests against previous neo-Nazi memorial marches in Wunsiedel.
reactions to the lateral thinker demonstration
The lateral thinkers mobilize under the motto "New elections, the chance to change?" And call for a democratic dialogue. They complain that they are repeatedly hindered by blockages at their demos in Göttingen. Marcus Fuchs, co-organizer of the lateral thinker demo and a member of the Free Saxons classified as a right-wing extremist, is described by Saxon constitutional protection as a speaker of right-wing extremist parties. The Göttingen Alliance describes the lateral thinkers as a dangerous mixture of enemies of science, democracy, imperial citizens, esoterics and extreme rights.
Ezra Rudolph from the alliance against the right warns of the dangerous rhetoric of lateral thinkers, who often address anti -Semitic, Islamophobic and racist conspiracy ideologies in their speech. In addition, they show queer -anti -quer- provocations and show symbols of the right -wing extremist party Free Saxony. In the past, the counter-demonstrations of the alliance always attracted a thousand people who partially carried out blockages or stopped the lateral thinker demonstrations, such as ndrd.de reported.
The current mobilizations of the lateral thinkers are already the fourth of its kind in two years, while the counter -protests keep bringing thousands of people to the streets. Agnieszka Zimowska, spokeswoman for the alliance, emphasizes that the protest is for a solidarity society and democratic solutions.
The police will accompany the events on Saturday to ensure a trouble -free process.
