Fitwi and Mayer win at the Record Hannover Marathon 2025!

On April 6, 2025, the 33rd Hanover Marathon took place, in which around 29,500 active participation-a record number for the event. The classic marathon distance attracted 4,800 participants who started at 10 a.m. The German record holder Samuel Fitwi, who set a new German record in December 2024 in Valencia with 2:04:56 hours, was one of the main favorites. He strived for both the title and the course record of 2:06:05, set up in 2024.

Amanal Petros, the previous year's winner, did not defend his title and instead took part in the London Marathon on April 27th. Fitwi's challengers also included Welday, a former runner of TSV Pattensen, who targeted the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. In the women's competition, last year's winner Domenika Mayer, Deborah Schöneborn and Laura Hottenrott came into the race as favorites. Mayer had deliberately chose Hanover, while Hottenrott had to deal with health problems before the race. Schöneborn also celebrated her comeback after injuries.

Mayer won the women's race in 2:24:22 hours, but missed her own route record of 2:23:50 hours. This was the third victory for Mayer in Hanover after it was successful in 2022 and 2024.

Laura Hottenrott took second place in 2:27:06 hours, followed by Deborah Schöneborn, who was third with 2:29:30 hours. With more than 29,500 active participants, the event experienced a new participant record that exceeded the previous record of 26,792 reports.
