The construction work is progressing and the construction pit is excavated on an area of ​​around 5,000 square meters. A large excavator and two caterpillars are used, the sheet piling of steel, concrete and wood around the excavation pit to secure the building and the attached houses.

Ralph Wirth, head of building and technology, emphasizes the need for these security measures due to the tight property conditions. The drilling is carried out without impairing the hospital operation. The new parent-child center will house the women's and children's clinic and includes a four-story building with all facilities such as the women's clinic, pathology and the bed center. Prof. Peter Dall, chief physician of the women's clinic, emphasizes the advantages of the short distances and the additional space, which is required for almost 2,000 births every year.

The center will include a new emergency outpatient clinic for children and adolescents as well as two modern stations. Antje Kuhrau, senior midwife, highlights the importance of the spatial proximity of mother and child for breastfeeding. The obstetrics team is planning seven delivery rooms, a labor gardens and two course rooms. There will also be accommodation options for parents whose children are treated in the clinic. Prof. Dall mentions that the new building creates the prerequisites for further development as a Perinatal Center Level I.

Another important step in the construction process is the creation of the floor slab, which is cast in four parts. Construction manager Ralph Wirth describes the course of the work, including the integration of the foundations and the laying of lines. The construction site should be accessible until the 125th anniversary of the clinic at the end of September.
