Anniversary festival in the water tower: Lüneburg's landmark is 25!
The water tower in Lüneburg, one of the most impressive landmarks of the city, celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. Since its inauguration, the water tower has been part of an important pedagogical, social and sustainable project, which is celebrated on June 13, 2025 with a three -day festival.
Last year, almost 110,000 visitors attracted the water tower, which is not only sight, but also an event location. Over 160 civil marriages took place here. In addition to weddings, the water tower is also used for cultural events such as exhibitions, cabaret and concerts. Schools and daycare groups are given free access, and there are opportunities for social hours.

Between 1906 and 1907,built according to the plans of the architect Franz Krüger, the water tower supplied the city with drinking water until 1985. In 1998 the city acquired the water tower for a D-Mark, and in 2000 it was made accessible to the public. The sponsoring association, which is responsible for the long -term orientation, has renovated the water tower from 1998 to 2011 in three construction phases for around four million euros. From 2020 to 2022, an extensive exhibition entitled "Water Tower meets sustainability - ways into the future".
Currently there are further renovation work. The toilets will be renewed from 2023 to 2024, and a mosaic design in the stairwell is implemented. In addition, the lighting in the water tower was modernized energy -efficiently. The water tower has also served as a city toilet and Re-Fill station since the latter year and has set up a bicycle repair station.
Interesting activities are planned for the anniversary party, including guided tours, concerts, workshops and talks.
