Revolution in the Oldenburger Land: Amazon opens the most modern logistics center!
in Grossenkneten, more precisely in the Ahlhorn district, Amazon opened a state -of -the -art logistics center in August 2023, which is officially referred to as "BRE 2". The center is 23 meters high and extends over an area of around 52,000 square meters, which makes it one of the company's largest facilities in Germany. Around 1,500 employees are currently working on an area of around 50,000 square meters, with a planned increase to 2,000 in the coming months. More than half a million items are handled every day, especially during high season such as Christmas or Black Friday.
Strongly automated, the logistics center uses 3,000 self -driving transport robots, which help the employees to reduce their walking paths by 12 to 13 kilometers per day. The employees come from around 65 nations and work in a three-shift system, with two free working days a week. Other safety precautions include metal detectors and strict rules in dealing with personal objects, in addition all employees receive individual lockers with their home flags. A good connection to public transport is difficult, however, since many employees from distant cities such as Bremen, commuting and on special buses from Amazon are dependent.
modern working conditions and challenges
The logistics center in Ahlhorn is considered one of the most modern in Germany and Europe. It offers extensive automation and uses artificial intelligence to increase efficiency. Mayor Thorsten Schmidtke described the settlement as the "biggest litter" for the community. District Administrator Christian Pundt praised the openness of Amazon and the cooperation with the region, but also sees challenges in the field of local public transport. Initially, only night shifts were offered, now a day layer has also been set up to increase flexibility for employees.
In addition to the high number of employees and the complex logistics processes that include 140 truck movements every day, the center specializes in processing small items, such as earrings. Larger products are sent from other distribution centers. The innovative infrastructure and the degree of automation ensure that Amazon can continue to create highly qualified areas at the Ahlhorn location. The next wave of attitudes with the largest employer in the region is already being planned.
