Deadly police delets in Oldenburg: protests and chaos broke out!

in Oldenburg, the night of Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025, occurred a tragic incident when 21-year-old Lorenz A. died after police fees. The young man was involved in a discussion in front of a discotheque that led to a fatal police operation. When the police denied him access to the discotheque, A. sprayed irritant in the direction of security employees. During his escape, he was persecuted by several people and threatened to pull out a knife, which broke off the persecution. As a result, A. again sprayed irritant when meeting police officers, which led to the fatal shots that were fired by a 27-year-old police officer. Three of the five shots hit Lorenz A. from behind, and later he succumbed to his serious injuries in the hospital.

The tragic events around the death of Lorenz A. led far -reaching protests. On April 25, 2025, the "Justice for Lorenz" initiative in Oldenburg mobilized a demonstration in which, according to the police, between 8,000 and 10,000 people took part. The rally called for a complete clarification of the incident and criticized structural racism and police violence. At the same time, there were arson attacks that were supposedly directed against the operator of the discotheque before Lorenz A. A burned-out car found in the Kreyenbrück district belonged to a 26-year-old demonstrator. The police made it clear that there was no connection between the woman and the disco operator.

Investigations and discussions

After the incident, the investigation into the circumstances of the death of Lorenz A. continues. A special feature is that the body of the officials were not activated during the incident, which raises questions about transparency. While the investigation is carried out by the police in Delmenhorst, critics express concerns about impartiality. Lower Saxony's Interior Minister Behrens defended the police's approach as legitimate. Against the responsible police officer is being investigated for manslaughter, and he was temporarily suspended from service.

Due to the demonstrations and the emotional discussion about the circumstances of the incident, a social discourse on police violence and racism has been initiated in Germany. The family of Lorenz A. called for a non -violent protest and called for a respectful way of dealing with the situation. Despite the tragedy, the public debate on police work and dealing with minorities in Germany remains in full swing.
