Stadium in Leyme is renamed Robert Cayrol!
On Sunday, May 11th, the Leyme stadium is ceremoniously renamed Stade Robert Cayrol. This happens in the presence of representatives of the municipality of Leyme and the department and is said to be a tribute to Robert Cayrol, who was a central figure in Leymer football for over 70 years. Cayrol, who died in December 2023, was not only an active player, but also a committed volunteer official who accompanied generations of players and promoted amateur football.
The renaming of the stadium is said to keep the memory of Robert Cayrol alive and pass on his sporting heritage to the younger generations. Cayrol was awarded the best official of the department in 1995-1996 and also reached fourth place in the regional ranking. The event to which all players, officials, residents and friends of Robert Cayrol are invited ends with a glass of friendship.
Robert Cayrol - a life for football
Both the community and the sports community are enthusiastic about the planned renaming. Robert Cayrol is considered a key figure in the history of Leymer Football, which he supported in 1947 by founding the Ruch Sportive de Leyme-Molières association. His tireless efforts and passion for football have shaped the village -dwelled sports life.
The grief for him was also visible through various death ads, which were published between December 2022 and March 2025. Robert Cayrol died at the age of 93 and left a family that collapsed in these difficult times. His legacy is not only maintained by the renaming of the stadium, but also by the memories of his teammates and friends, who appreciated him as a person who lived and loved football.
