Rain brings hope: Emergency forces examine forest fire on the chunk
During the night there were productive rains on the chunk, which could possibly have a positive effect on the current forest fire. In the morning, the emergency services plan to go into the affected site to check the effects of rainwater on the fire. Immo Kramer, head of the crisis staff, expressed optimistic towards the German press agency and described it as a glimmer of hope for fire fighting. "We go in with staff to see what effect the rain had," he said.
The fire that broke out last Friday at the Königsberg - a minor crest of Brocken - spread over a distance of around 1,000 meters. Over the weekend, intensive extinguishing work was carried out both from the air and on the ground. It was particularly gratifying that the emergency services succeeded in preventing the fire on Saturday evening. For the safety of the visitors, the affected area is currently closed to tourists in order not to endanger the extinguishing work.
Current extinguishing rates and emergency services
according to Kai-Uwe Lohse, the district fire chief, another extinguishing rate from the air is rather unlikely. The planned measures are now focusing primarily on the so -called remaining extinguishing work in the field. There is a targeted search for embers that could still be present. Lohse points out that around 50 emergency services are mobilized to take part in this finding process.
The continuing efforts of the fire and emergency teams are carried not only by the weather conditions, but also by the rapid use of support resources. It is a continuous challenge that binds the firefighters in their efforts. A common goal of the forces on site is to ensure the fire site thoroughly and prevent a possible return of the flames.
The course of the coming hours will be crucial to determine how the situation on the Brocken will develop. The emergency services hope that the rains will make a significant improvement that makes it easier to fight the flames. As one of the most difficult natural disasters with which the region can be confronted, however, the emergency services are ready to continue to take all the necessary steps to cope with the forest fire.
