FM age ends: N-Joy and Radio Bob! Place on DAB+!
Süderlügum, Deutschland - On April 9, 2025, the N-Joy VKN station in Süderlügum near Niebüll was switched off. This measure is part of the digitization of radio in Schleswig-Holstein, whereby the improved transmission technology DAB+ is introduced. As early as January 24, 2025, the DAB+ broadcaster started operating at the Niebüll-Stadt location and transfers all eight NDR radio programs in North Friesland. The shutdown affects the Southonders area as well as adjacent regions to Stadum.
n-joy remains available to listeners via various digital platforms, including DAB+, the ARD audio app, DVB-T2, the N-Joy app, the website www.n-joy.de, satellite and internet. DAB+ offers noise-free reception, better sound quality and digital additional services such as song titles and CD cover. In addition, digital transmission consumes less electricity than the analogous FM reception and does not require any data volume. Almost all motorways in the north German broadcast area have now been supplied with DAB+, and many new cars have DAB+ capable radios that automatically search for programs.
conversion of the radio stations
From April 10, 2025, the radio station "Radio Bob! Rockt Schleswig-Holstein" will also be received exclusively via DAB+ and Internet. So Radio Bob! The first nationwide broadcaster in Schleswig-Holstein, which gives up its analog FM frequencies. The NDR also switches its N-Joy program to digital distribution in the Niebüll area. This FM shutdown affects the region north of Süderlügum to Jardelund and south to Stedesand and Stadum.
The switch to DAB+ is accompanied by information and communication measures. The aim is to create a diverse and future -proof radiol landscape. In order to support this process, private and public radio stations have agreed with the state government and the state media institution to gradually switch to DAB+ from 2025 to 2031. DAB+ is the current radio card in Europe and offers numerous advantages, including clear sound and color displays for information about songs and moderators.
In Schleswig-Holstein, over 55 programs are already digitally offered, which exceeds the number of programs available via FM transmitters. The NDR plans to expand the DAB+ supply by commissioning further transmitters in the coming years and to reduce electricity consumption for remaining FM channels.
