Attention, Aachen! How to protect yourself from nasty QR code fraudsters!
online fraudsters are increasingly sophisticated and are now increasingly relying on QR codes to spy on passwords and sensitive data. In an alarming development, this fraud, known as "quishing", uses codes on fake documents or charging stations to lure unsuspecting users. Security software can often not recognize this fraud attempts, since QR codes are recorded as pictures and the link is only visible after scanning.
The Aachen police urgently warns users: scan QR codes only if they are sure that they are serious. It is advisable to use an app that shows the link after scanning without calling it up immediately. In the case of suspicious letters or punitive notes, users should check the sender via known contact details and be careful with over glued QR codes on charging columns. In the event of a suspicion of fraud, an immediate advertisement from the police is advisable - this can even be done online.
