Self-made e-bikes in Paderborn: Police provide illegal drivers!

In Paderborn, two men caused excitement when the police stopped them with self -made electric bicycles that did not meet the traffic regulations. On Friday morning, a police patrol noticed a cyclist who, despite the lack of pedal movements, continued with his bike. The 65-year-old had illegally rebuilt a normal bicycle: a hub motor in the front wheel allowed him to control the speed as with a moped over a gas turn. Neither an operating license nor a necessary insurance were able to prove the men - even though the cyclist had recently targeted because of a similar violation.

The police emphasize that the construction of such vehicles is subject to strict guidelines. In order to be able to drive on public roads, self-made e-bikes must be a safety compliant. It is important to note important standards: a regular pedelec should perform a maximum of 250 watts and offer pedal support up to 25 km/h. The unreasonable handling of technology now not only results in legal consequences, but could also have dangerous consequences for safety in traffic.
