Nuremberg police officer Matthias Schindler: Held of the Paralympics 2024
The Paralympics 2024 are just around the corner and promise to become an inspiring event. From August 28th to September 8th, 2024, athletes from all over the world, including the Nuremberg police officer Matthias Schindler, are entered in Paris. These games organized in the spirit of the Olympics are the most important sporting event for people with physical or mental disabilities.
Matthias Schindler is no stranger to paralympic cycling. Already at the Paralympics in Tokyo 2021, he was able to prevail against the competition with a bronze award in the time trial. In addition, he left no doubt at the Paracycling World Championship in Glasgow and got the gold medal. The upcoming Paralympics are the next big challenge for him and the German team hopes for further medals.
a path full of challenges
Schindler's path to the top athlete is characterized by adversity. In 2011 he suffered a severe stroke of fate when he woke up cross-sectional paralysis after a tumor removal operation with incomplete. This moment was a striking turning point for the native of Regensburg and former police officers. Despite the physical restrictions, he was not discouraged and fought tirelessly, supported by his colleagues and superiors of the Middle Franconia Police Inspection.
"I can say that without the police headquarters in Middle Franconia, I would never have become world champion," reflects the 41-year-old athlete. His gratitude towards the support he learned during his rehabilitation is obvious. This backing not only helped him to be successful in sports, but also to act as a model for many others.
The Paralympics in Paris are another opportunity for Schindler to demonstrate their talent. It is planned that he will compete in two disciplines: on September 4 at 8 a.m., he starts in his parade discipline, the time trial on the street. This is followed by the street race on September 7th at 9:30 a.m. Colleagues and fans keep their fingers crossed and are optimistic that he can return home with a medal.
The anticipation for the Paralympics grows and with it the expectation that athletes like Matthias Schindler will inspire the audience with their skills and fighting spirit. The games are not only a platform to present sporting excellence, but also an important occasion to draw attention to the performance and challenges of people with disabilities.
