Interreligious sign of hope: commemorating the Hamas robbery

In the Upper Bergisch, an interreligious memorial event took place on Saturday to commemorate the first anniversary of the Hamas attack on Israel, in which over 1,200 people were killed. On this occasion, Jews, Christians and Muslims came together in the Evangelical Church of Gummersbach. Superintendent Michael Braun emphasized that the goal of the assembly was to break through the spiral of violence and to set an example for charity and respect. The participants, including representatives of the Jewish and Muslim communities, shared personal experiences and reflected on the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

In his speech,

Abraham teacher from the Jewish community of Cologne warned of the dangers of radicalization that the war brings. He also expressed concern about the increase in anti -Semitism in Germany and demanded civil courage. Rafet Öztürk from the Turkish-Islamic Union and Christoph Bersch, district dechant in Oberbergische, emphasized the need for a dialogue between religions. The event should not only serve to commemorate, but also promote awareness of peace and understanding, while music formed the framework for the interreligious peace asking, reports www.oberberg-aktuell.de .
