Wernigerode: After rainfall - emergency services fight against fire spots
In a tense situation on the chunk, emergency services have to deal with the aftermath of a single -insulated forest fire. After nightly rainfalls, three fire spots are still active, which are immediately examined by the emergency services. As part of a compliance, the crisis team manager, Immo Kramer, informed the German press agency about the state of affairs. The use of drones with thermal imaging cameras is planned for the hard -to -reach suspicion areas in order to obtain a more comprehensive picture of the situation.
Although the rain has stabilized the location somewhat, the extinguishing work is complicated. Due to the this visibility in the area, there are currently no fire -fighting aircraft in use, but the forecasts for the afternoon give hope for better conditions. In the meantime, the helicopters, which were used for support at the weekend, are no longer available because their replacement is planned.
The situation on site
In the morning, the emergency services took a close look at the terrain to find out more about the forest fire. The continuous rain over several hours has improved the conditions, but Kramer made it clear that combating the remaining work will continue to require considerable time and personnel capacities. "We can't report a fire yet," he added.
The forest fire, which broke out on Friday on the Königsberg, a minor crop of the Brocken, spread over a distance of around 1,000 meters. For several days, the emergency services worked intensively to control the fire from both the air and on the ground. On Saturday evening, the firefighters finally managed to stop the fire. These extraordinary and exhausting missions have led to a blocking of the area for tourists in order to ensure the safety of both the emergency services and potential visitors.
The combination of fire -dangerous conditions and difficult terrain conditions continue to present the emergency services for challenges. The sudden weather changes, the rains and the fog occurring have additional difficulties. With the planned drone inserts, the authorities hope to quickly identify the existing foci of fire and to avert further dangers.
