Moving language: Child protection association promotes language skills in Langen
The successful promotion of language and exercise in children is a task that is becoming increasingly important. The Kinderschutzbund (KSB) Westkreis Offenbach reacted to this challenge with the innovative “moving language” program. This was launched in 2002 to support the linguistic and social development of preschool children who often have difficulty expressing and interacting with others.
background and goals of the project
language represents a hurdle for many children. Shyness and uncertainties can severely affect communication with peers and educators. Ursula Abeln, project manager and co -founder, sums it up: "Violence begins with language". Therefore, the program was designed as a preventive measure in order to give the children the opportunity to express themselves verbally and non -verbally. By integrating movement, the learning process is also playfully designed.
The course concept and its materials
The course offer is aimed particularly at children in the penultimate day of the daycare center who have special needs. According to Abeln, it is deliberately set early to lay the foundation for language and social skills. The participants, in groups of up to eight children, are together in a protected room and learn from a rich material that is summarized in a manual.
The manual is richly illustrated and contains 80 color cards with alphabetical motifs and associated play and learning units. Topics deal with areas such as animals, colors and friendship, whereby the children learn through clear rules and structure to act in social interaction.
Current challenges and needs for specialists
Currently, in Langen, due to lack of staff, no course of the "moving language" can be offered. However, the KSB is optimistic that new course management can be found in order to revive the offer. "The financing is the responsibility of the municipalities," explains Abeln, who also emphasizes that the need for such programs is very high, especially in focus areas.
success stories from the course
The commitment of the KSB already shows positive effects. Feedback from primary schools confirms the effectiveness of the courses. Children who have participated in the program often show increased attention and independence when learning. Sabrina Lenz, who heads courses, reports on an experience with a shy girl who became more public and active after several course units. "Some children simply need a safe space to discover their skills," says Lenz.
conclusion: a call to support
The "moving language" is more than just a language support program. It ensures that children are given the opportunity to find their voices and feel comfortable in a social community. The Child Protection Association is urgently looking for new specialists to continue this valuable work. With the support of the community, the offer could soon be expanded to offer even more children the chance of successful linguistic and social development.
