Drunken helmsman is in court: two million damage to Iffezheim!
The steering woman of the “La Primavera” goods motor ship is on trial after causing a heavy accident at the Iffezheim lock. According to the director of the Shipping Court Kehl, Nicolas Gethmann, the indictment of the Offenburg public prosecutor's office was admitted for negligent risk to shipping traffic. In the event of an alcohol test four hours after the incident on November 11, 2023, a blood alcohol value of 0.75 per thousand was found. The 49-year-old, who lives abroad, is expected on November 25th in court, where the presumption of innocence applies until a judgment.
The damage caused amounts to over two million euros, a sum that is probably to be taken over by the Dutch owner of the ship. In addition, a civil law procedure was initiated in which the Federal Republic of Germany as the operator of the damaged lock system requested compensation. The court seems to consider a conviction to be likely, which increases the excitement about the case. Further information on this incident there is here .
