Art project transforms railway underpass in Windschläg - Lake of Riddims Festival 2024

A new era of street art in Offenburg

In the railway underpass in Offenburg, a collection of graffiti and color smearings has formed over the years. These unsightly sights have now finally come to an end, thanks to the organization team of the festival "Art in the underpass". Artists from the region, including Patrick Eggs, Carlos Greber, Hannes Kramer, Kevin Meyle and Carina Schmidt, have created an impressive 30 meter long work of art that adorns the walls of the underpass.

The initiative was supported by the municipality and the local authorities that have recognized the importance of art in public spaces. Several sponsors have made financial contributions to enable this ambitious art project. The art installation should not only beautify the underpass, but also to strengthen the coexistence and strengthen solidarity in the community.

The “Art in the Unit” festival will take place for the first time in August 2025 and, in addition to music from various genres, also offer workshops and tours of street art. The event is intended to highlight the diversity of the local artist scene and bring people of all ages and background together to celebrate the transformative power of art.

This project shows how art not only creates aesthetic pleasure, but also combines communities and can upgrade urban areas. It is an inspiring example of how creative initiatives enrich the social structure of a city and raise awareness of the importance of art in public spaces. - nag
