New emigration: The life stories of Oldenburg happiness seekers

A fascinating hiking exhibition entitled "Happiness in the Far" will open on Sunday, November 3, at 11 a.m. in the Northwest German Museum of Industrial Culture. The exhibition illuminates the fate of emigrants from the Oldenburg Land and can be seen in the needle setting in the factory museum on the northwool site until 4. May of next year. Museum director Carsten Jöhnk and Wolfgang Martens, chairman of the Oldenburg Society for Family Studies, welcome the visitors. A lecture by Jochen Oltmer for overseas migration in the 19th and 20th centuries complement the opening.

curator Etta Bengen documented the life of nine emigrants, including the Oldenburg Eberhard Hayen, who emigrated to the USA in 1859 and wrote letters to his family for decades. Visitors to the exhibition can discover personal memorabilia, photos and models that provide insights into the living conditions of the emigrants. The stories are the result of years of research and can also be viewed on the website of the Oldenburg Society for Family Studies. For more information, see the report on www.weser-kurier.de .
