On Monday, October 8th, the annual prevention campaign against pickpocketing took place. Chief Criminal Investigation Michael Meinerzhagen said that an inattentive moment is enough to lose the wallet. Together with police chief Andreas Westhoff, they informed the citizens about protective measures, supported by flyers and handkerchiefs as part of the campaign "Open eyes and bag! Langfinger are always on the go."

The number of cases in pickpocketing in North Rhine-Westphalia has risen alarming-39,519 cases in 2023 compared to 37,321 in the previous year. In the district of Olpe, too, there was an increase of over 35% with a total of 96 reported incidents. This is well above the level in front of Corona pandemic. Meinerzhagen advises to always carry wallets close to your body, keep an eye on valuables and keep your distance from strangers, especially in pressures.
