Zoff in the climbing park: Muslims and police in dialogue about prejudices!
In the climbing park Sögel happens incredible! A special kind of meeting between Muslim adolescents and police officers causes surprises. "Do I have a chance with you as a migrant?" Ask the young Muslims. However, the police are not silent. It is hotly discussed! The initiative "Create security together", led by the Muslim Youth Community Osnabrücker Land and the Osnabrück police department, aims at reducing prejudices and creating new trust. www.ndr.de .
The atmosphere crackles when the conversations go deep under the skin. Young migrants with escape stories do not trust the police after they have had terrible experiences in their countries of origin. These youth experiences leave traces. But distrust falls in the airy heights of the climbing park - at least a little. Dua Zeitun, the coordinator of the Muslim youth community, takes the time to process these stories and build bridges.
Not enough! On social networks, videos of police violence are circulating that only heat the distrust even more - mostly distorted and torn from the context. But here, far from service uniforms and bureaucracy, the police are shown by a new, human side. Niki Simon, head of the Emsland police inspection, is enthusiastic: "A 'we' and 'you' should no longer exist!" Emin Odman, a police officer with Turkish roots, also hopes to inspire some for the job. Despite all the differences, a sincere exchange is in full swing - and maybe even friendship.
