Thief: GPS tracker helps police with e-bike robbery in Ratekau!

A 53-year-old man is charged with theft and stealing before the district court of Eutin. The case is about a stolen e-bike (Pedelec), which was stolen in Lübeck in Lübeck in September 2023. The owner had equipped the e-bike with a GPS tracker that transmitted the location of the bicycle.

After the owner informed the police about the position of the e-bike, it could be localized in a backyard garage in Ratekau. When searching the garage, the officers found numerous other stolen bicycles, bicycle parts, machines and tools. In the course of the investigation, the public prosecutor's office issued a search decision, and the criminal police took over the further investigation.

During the search, the investigators already knew three frame numbers of the bicycles found, which had been stolen between summer 2022 and autumn 2023 in Timmendorfer Strand and Scharbeutz. The defendant admitted that he had owned the stolen e-bike and the bicycle parts, however, denied that she had stolen yourself. He explained that he wanted to use some parts for the construction of his own bike while others were intended for resale. Furthermore, the accused admitted the four -fold allegations of the stealing.

The judge expressed a fine of 120 daily rates of 15 euros each, which corresponds to a total of 1800 euros that are to be paid in installments. The accused has a mini job and also receives citizens' money.

The importance of GPS trackers, as they were used in the present case, is undisputed because high-quality bicycles and e-bikes have increasingly become the goal of thieves.
