Stau-hotspots in Schleswig-Holstein: Kiel threatens traffic chaos!

The traffic situation in Kiel and the surrounding area was severely affected on April 20, 2025 by numerous construction sites and accidents. The current traffic jam information not only relate to Kiel, but also on motorways such as the A7, A20, A21, A210 and A215 as well as on federal roads such as the B76, B77, B205, B404 and B430. The Theodor-Heuss-Ring in Kiel in particular is identified as a needle. According to reports from the ADAC, traffic jams often occur on the A1 and A7, especially at tourist peak times.

In the Rendsburg region, sewer crossings, especially in front of the Canal tunnel, are a common cause of traffic jams. Other traffic jams are the A7 at the Rader Hochbrücke, the B77 and the A210 in the Rendsburg area. Traffic on the B203 between Rendsburg and Eckernförde and on the B206 in Bad Segeberg is also described as problematic. In Kiel, accidents on busy roads such as the Waldwiesenkreuz, Kaistraße on Stresemannplatz, the Ostring on Konrad-Adenauer-Damm and the Westring on Gutenbergstrasse occur. The Theodor-Heuss-Ring is also a hotspot for accidents in Kiel. The Bordesholmer Dreieck (A215/A7) as well as the B206/B432 in Bad Segeberg are also known as accidental areas.

construction sites and traffic policy

An important construction site also affects the A6 near Schnelldorf. In this section, which is in operation despite high temperatures, a six -lane traffic will be sought by autumn 2025. This ten -kilometer -long large construction site has existed since 2020 and has already recorded 77 accidents this year. Thomas Boehr, branch manager of Autobahn GmbH, emphasizes the increased risk of accidents on construction sites, where closer lanes and missing side stripes increase the risk of traffic jams.

The A6 is one of the strongly frequented traffic routes in Europe, with around 60,000 vehicles every day, including 18,000 trucks. The extensive expansion project costs 215 million euros and is financed by the federal government. It should increase performance and traffic safety and reduce the risk of accidents. During the main travel time, the construction site often leads to kilometers of traffic jams and full closures. The ADAC already warns of possible traffic jams on the A6 and recommends letting journeys to move on weekdays.
