Escape point home: A trip through Paderborn's reports from migration
Paderborn. The audiovisual installation "Establishment point Heimat" has found its new location in the vaulted hall of Neuhaus Castle. After leaving a first impression during the museum night at the end of August, the audience can now experience the moving stories of the people who had to leave their homeland until September 6, 2024. The initiative behind this installation comes from the Round Table Refugee Aid and the Neuhaus Castle in cooperation with the Residence Museum of the City of Paderborn.
Rolf Oberliesen, one of the initiators of the project, and his wife Ulrike have campaigned for this moving exhibition. The film producer Ansgar Frerich, who was nominated for an Oscar in 2019, created an impressive series of twelve videos as part of this installation. These show Paderborns who share their fates and tell of the reasons they forced them to escape from their homeland.
The messages in the videos
In the videos it becomes clear that it is moving escape and migration stories. The personalities who have their say tell of their experiences and the challenges with which they were confronted. Nguyet Rodehutskors, for example, speaks openly about her escape from the war in Vietnam and the consequences that the life of the so -called Boatpeople brought with it. They are moving, often emotional stories that captivate the audience.
Rahman Jamal, another protagonist, describes his arrival in Paderborn as a "man without a mother tongue", inspired by the title of his book from 2022. This impressively illustrates the difficulties with which refugees are confronted in a new country. Other fates, such as that of the artist Suat Özdemir, who came to Germany out of love, and the Ms. Irmgard Suwelack, who was driven out of East Prussia after the Second World War, fit seamlessly into the comprehensive presentation of human experiences.
The stories are staged by Frerich's visual art, which is not only the curator of the installation, but also works with the base Berlin Postproduktion GmbH in order to bring these emotional stories to life. Oberliesen notes that the installation at the museum night attracted many visitors and that the reactions were consistently positive. The dialogue about flight and migration must continue, emphasizes his wife Ulrike, which in times of global crises underlines the importance of this topic.
Ansgar Frerich: The creative head behind art
Ansgar Frerich, who grew up in Neuhaus Castle, has made a name for itself in Berlin. His talent as a producer and mixed tone master was already recognized with several prizes. The nomination for the Oscar in 2019 for the documentary film "of Fathers and Sons - The Children of the Calipat" increased his reputation again, even if he left empty at the award ceremony.
Frerich's creativity -promoting environment and his willingness to deal with complex and often painful topics make it an important face in the current discussion about migration and identity. The solid space of the vault in Neuhaus Castle offers the perfect backdrop for this profound exhibition, which also invites you to think about your own home. "Escape point" is not just an exhibition, but rather a step in the direction of a constant dialogue about the challenges associated with flight and migration.
