Fast reaction saved: workers prevent van in Bad Lippspringe

in Bad Lippspringe, on Tuesday morning, September 3, there was a dramatic incident at a construction site to lay fiber optic lines. Two workers, at the age of 27 and 34, showed extraordinary reaction during a fire that broke out in their work area. With their quick action, they not only prevented a greater danger, but also protected ownership in the area.

At 9.15 a.m., the two men stood in the middle of the work when the compressor, which was necessary for the laying work, began to burn. The problem arose when the rear door of the van was open, causing the compressor to be unprotected and in direct contact with the air. The fire quickly got out of control, and it was important to act quickly to avoid greater damage. While his colleague balanced the burning parts out of the vehicle, the other took control of the vehicle and brought it away from the danger site.

Fast reaction and intervention of the fire brigade

The vehicle, a citroen jumper panel van, was driven in time to the nearest crossing, where the compressor and other burning materials were then unloaded. The fire brigade was alerted and immediately set off to extinguish the fire. It is thanks to their professional intervention that the damage to the vehicle remained relatively low, whereby only slight damage to the van, the road surface and the construction site barriers were recorded.

The two workers breathed in flue gas and were taken as a precaution with an ambulance to a nearby hospital in Paderborn to be treated there. Fortunately, the scope of their injuries was low, and they ultimately survived the situation without serious health consequences.

After the incident, the police informed the Office for Occupational Safety to ensure that all security protocols were met and to evaluate possible preventive measures for the future. Such events illustrate the potential risks associated with construction work, especially in areas that involve new technologies such as fiber optic. It is to be hoped that more intensive training of the workers and the introduction of additional safety precautions can be avoided in the future.

The quick reaction both the worker and the fire brigade could be seen as a model for others in similar professions. The incident shows how crucial it is to act calmly and carefully in emergency situations in order not only to yourself, but also others and the environment.
