traffic jam on the Gotthard: A foretaste of the holiday season
The holiday season is just around the corner and for many drivers this means keeping patience on the streets. Especially on the track to the south through the Alps, there can be strong traffic jams. Last weekend it was particularly chaotic, especially on the Gotthardstraßentunnel in Switzerland.
Traffic builds up early, often up to 14 kilometers before the tunnel. Motorists stand in the queue for hours before finally going south through the tunnel. But there were delays not only towards the south, also on the way north, albeit on a shorter route of four kilometers.
A reason for the increased volume of traffic is the beginning of the summer vacation in the Netherlands and various German federal states. During this time, many families travel on vacation and also use the route through the Alps. The traffic authorities are already warning against further traffic jams in the coming weekends.
In order to accommodate the road users, the Viasuisse traffic service gives a helpful tip: The best chances of a staunch drive are on the days between Tuesday and Thursday. So if you have the opportunity to start the trip on one of these days, you can skillfully miss the traffic stress. So the trip on the well -deserved vacation will hopefully be more relaxed.
