Westernstrasse in Paderborn: retrofitting to LED lighting starts
Paderborn. Road lighting will be converted to modern LED technology in Westernstrasse from next Monday, September 9th. So far, the 29 decorative sodium vapor lights with an output of 150 watts each annually pulled an impressive 17,965 kilowatt hours of electricity. With the conversion, this consumption can be reduced to around 8,383 kilowatt hours per year, which is not only more environmentally friendly, but also saves costs.
The city of Paderborn has announced that the conversion is expected to only take a few days. The fact that the complete lights are not replaced is crucial for this project. The lights installed in 1996 are still in an excellent condition, which is why only the interior is replaced by an energy-saving LED retrofit module with an output of 70 watts.
improved lighting conditions
An essential goal of this retrofitting is to improve the lighting conditions in the pedestrian zone. With the new LED modules, more uniform and lighter illumination is achieved. When selecting the modules, the use of insect -friendly, warm white light with a color temperature of 3,000 Kelvin was particularly careful. This decision shows the city's sense of responsibility for the environment and nature.
The cost of the entire conversion amounts to around 10,000 euros, which are fully borne by the city of Paderborn. Funding for this measure is not possible because it is a special solution: city administration and experts have developed a special conversion kit to modernize the lights sustainably.
If the city would simply replace the old lights for new LED models, the costs would have been more than twice as high. This shows the endeavor of Paderborn to find economically sensible and sustainable solutions.
Other projects of this kind are already being planned. A similar conversion to LED technology is also planned in Von-Ketteler-Straße in Elsen, where the bell lights there are to be renewed. This illustrates the continued efforts of the city not only to increase energy efficiency, but also to focus on sustainable lighting technologies.
