New smuggling campaign leads to dramatic accident at the festival "Donau in flames"
A dramatic event shook the "Danube in Flames" festival in Vilshofen, district of Passau. A 24-year-old suspected smuggler was on the run from the police and raced into a crowd that visited the festival. Six people were injured in the incident, four of them seriously. There were three women among the injuries, a man between the ages of 18 and 21 as well as a 15-year-old and an eleven-year-old.
The incident occurred as the driver of the car, in which he and eight foreign passengers, including five children between the ages of 3 and 14, were sitting into the festival visitors at excessive speed. Previously, a police patrol had tried to control the car on the federal road 8 between Passau and Vilshofen. However, the driver reacted with a risky escape towards Vilshofen.
After the car got into a dead end, the driver fled on foot, but was arrested by the officials shortly afterwards. Two police officers were slightly injured. The injured passers -by were immediately brought to hospitals to have their injuries treated.
The passengers of the 24-year-old did not have the necessary entry documents for Germany. The driver is accused of transporting them under life -threatening conditions. In addition to this serious accusation, he also has to answer for assault and road traffic offenses.
The festival "Donau on Flames" attracted several thousand visitors on this day. While the festival visitors were on one side of the Danube, an impressive fireworks took place on the other side, which was overshadowed by the tragic incident.
