A sensational incident made headlines on Saturday evening in Vilshofen when a driver fled the police and raced into a city festival. Six festivals were injured, four of them seriously. The chaotic scenes occurred during the popular festival "Donau in Flames" in the Passau district.
The incident started when the police tried to control a vehicle with a total of eight inmates on the A8 in Lower Bavaria. However, the driver of the car accelerated and fled towards Vilshofen. On his escape he lost control of the vehicle and collided with several festival visitors before opposing the police.
The injured, including children, were immediately medical care, and it was suspected that four of them suffered serious injuries. The exact severity of the injuries was still unclear at the time of the report.
After the collision, the fleeting driver continued his journey, ignored the injured and finally got into a dead end in Vilshofen. There he left his vehicle and tried to escape on foot. However, the police were able to arrest him quickly, slightly injured two officers.
"Donau on flames" is a festival that attracts thousands of visitors every year and offers fireworks along the Danube. The incident shaked the community of the Passau district and emphasized the need for better protection at large events.
