escape car accident at folk festival causes injuries
In a tragic incident at the “Donau in Flames” in Vilshofen, Lower Bavaria, a group of visitors was hit and injured by a fleeing vehicle. The incident occurred when the police tried to control a 24-year-old suspected smuggler from Georgia on the federal road 8 between Passau and Vilshofen.
The driver of the vehicle, in which there were eight Turkish nationals in addition to him, including five children, decided to escape. In doing so, he lost control of his car and drove into the crowd at the festival, which injured six people, including three moderate and three.
After the incident, the driver continued his escape, left the injured and finally ended in a dead end, where he fled on foot and was finally arrested by the police. During the arrest, two police officers were also slightly injured.
The passengers in the vehicle had no valid entry documents, which led to the suspicion that the driver has illegally introduced them and transported them under dangerous conditions. The alleged smuggler is now charged with assault and traffic offenses and is to be brought before an investigative judge today.
The incident shaked visitors to the folk festival and led to a debate about security at major events. The local community of Vilshofen is in deep grief about the events that were actually planned as a happy festival.
