eleven crime fans from Middle Franconia have entered the picturesque city of Passau to explore the locations of their favorite films. Led by the experienced city guide Anneliese Hertel, who has been offering tours for over 30 years, you are enthusiastic about the opportunity to experience the fascinating locations up close. Hertel reports that the demand for her crime tours has risen sharply, so that she often has to cancel in order to meet other interested parties. A second provider now has similar tours in the program, which further increases the level of awareness as a film set.
The influence of the Passau thrillers is unmistakable, as current statistics prove: The number of overnight stays in the city rose by impressive 22.8 percent compared to the previous year, with a total of around 515,000 overnight stays. A study by the University of Passau from 2021 shows that 47 percent of the respondents information that the crime novels have motivated them to visit the city. Hertel himself has a special connection to the series because her name and family history have been incorporated into the films. The tourists are enthusiastic about the old town and the newly gained background knowledge, and many are already planning another visit, especially to see Hertel in the latest crime production that is currently being rotated on the screen.
