The Passau public prosecutor's office confirmed that the suspect is now in custody after the investigative judge issued the provision of prison at the request of the public prosecutor.

The events began when the Georgian driver tried to escape the police and finally drove into a group of passers -by, with six people being injured. He then continued his escape, but was finally arrested by the police after getting stuck in a dead end with his SUV. It turned out that there were eight other inmates in the car next to him, including five children of Turkish citizenship who had no documents with them. The police therefore assume a case of lock.

Mayor expresses concerns

The mayor of Vilshofen, Florian Gams, emphasized that the accident had nothing to do with the nearby festival and happened on a street outside the festival area. Nevertheless, the entire community is shaken by the events and the incident would be discussed with the security forces in order to discuss possible improvements. Gams expressed his sympathy for the injured and hopes for a quick recovery.
