Cuba in the dark: Another nationwide power failure meets the population

In the early Saturday morning, Cuba experienced a catastrophic power failure again, which only occurred hours after the first progress in the restoration of the energy supply. At 6:15 a.m., the electricity in Germany failed, reports the Cuban state medium. Despite the intensive efforts of the state electricity supplier UNE, Cuba remains dark - with a few exceptions. There were lights in Havana at short notice, but the power supply quickly collapsed. Selected hospitals could only temporarily restore the electricity, while some shops are dependent on generators.

The first big blackout occurred on Friday when the decisive thermoelectric power plant Antonio Guiteras unexpectedly went off the net. Several other power plants were already shut down because of their miserable condition. The Ministry of Energy explained that the outdated infrastructures and the long-lasting effects of the US trade lock lead to these catastrophic power outages. Citizens' life on the Caribbean island is thus impaired massif because power failures are part of everyday life. Further information on the sad state of the Cuban energy supply is here to be found.
