Activists unroll protest banners at the Brandenburg goal-police on alert!
On Monday afternoon, December 16, the Brandenburg Gate, one of the most famous landmarks in Berlin, experienced a dramatic scene. Activists managed to climb the landmark with a lifting platform and unroll a protest banner with the message "Defend for Democracy in Syria-Rojava". This banner referred to the autonomous region in North and Eastern Syria, which is stranded in the heart of the Syrian civil war. The police were quickly on hand to get the protesters down from the dangerous position and to lock the tourist highlight, which caused great concern to the visitors present, such as berlin-live.de reported.
The Situation at the Brandenburg Gate was not the only incident in the region. Already a week ago, the police tried to prevent the monument through so -called climbers in a similar situation. According to police President Barbara Slovik, two vehicles with lifting platforms and activists with climbing equipment were discovered on the night before a conference. This enabled the police to act quickly and prevent the intruders from climbing the landmark. In the days after the conference, there were aggressive demonstrations with numerous attempts to block streets. As a result, 317 people were temporarily arrested, and there were 260 advertisements about the breach of the peace, resistance and attacks on police officers, such as nordkurier.de reported.
These incidents throw a light on the increasing tensions in the capital and are characterized by violent clashes between activists and the police. The Berlin authorities try to monitor protest actions and to ensure the safety of tourists.
