A dramatic incident shakes the idyllic community of Vilshofen in Lower Bavaria: a driver races through the streets on the run in front of the police and captures six passers -by, some of whom were seriously injured. The injured were among the visitors of the popular festival “Donau in Flames” in Vilshofen, which attracts numerous people every year.
The police-known 24-year-old Georgian was on the road at an excessive speed and lost control of his vehicle when turning left, which then drifted to the right and hit the passers-by. Among the eight occupants of the car were also five children, all of whom were exposed to a big shock.
The municipality of Vilshofen is shocked by this incident and is together in solidarity to help the injured. At the moment there is talk of four seriously injured victims, while the exact nature and severity of the injuries are still being examined.
The police had tried to stop the driver on the B8 between Passau and Vilshofen, whereupon he underwent a chase at high speed. After the accident, he continued his escape on foot, but was finally arrested by civil servants, slightly injured two police officers.
The annual promenade festival "Donau on Flames" usually attracts thousands of visitors and is a popular attraction in the region. The event impresses with the picturesque backdrop along the Danube and an impressive fireworks that inspires visitors every year.
