A traffic accident led to injuries, high damage to property and a diversion for incoming cyclists on September 1, 2024. The incident occurred around 4:49 p.m. at the exit of a parking space at the B 27 near Hoheneiche. A 76-year-old from Espenau wanted to turn left towards Eschwege with his car, which pulled a trailer.
At the same time, a 59-year-old from Aschersleben drove on the B 27 towards Sontra. According to the police, the 59-year-old tried to avoid the bending vehicle, which was too late. The following collision of the two cars let the 59-year-old vehicle be thrown over the oncoming lane. His car tore out a guideline before it came to a standstill.
injured driver and property damage
Both drivers suffered injuries in the accident, which is why they were brought to a clinic for further treatment. Significant damage to property occurred on both vehicles, which resulted in the fact that they were no longer ready to drive and had to be towed. The federal road was closed until 6:15 p.m., while the fire brigade and the road maintenance department were called to the scene of the accident due to expiring operating materials.
The accident also had an impact on a group of cyclists who was traveling at the same time. The participants of the "Euro-Tandem Tour 2024", an inclusion project with the aim of bringing people with and without disabilities together had to be redirected. The bicycle pulse, which drove from Fulda towards Eschwege, was led via Datterode to avoid the scene of the accident. Such diversions can significantly disrupt the planning and the time process of such events.
The police point out that traffic accidents, such as this, not only affect the drivers involved, but can also affect other road users and events. People should always drive carefully and foresight to avoid such incidents. For further information and questions, the press office of the Werra-Meißner police department is available, which takes close monitoring of the action and corresponding measures to ensure traffic safety.
