The traffic accident statistics 2024 for North Hesse shows gratifying developments: The number of reported traffic accidents has dropped by 123 to a total of 21,737 compared to the previous year. In particular, the accidents with seriously injured record a decline of 19.8 %, with 457 incidents in 2024. The number of seriously injured people is 553, which is also a significant descent. But the darkness of the statistics remains: the number of traffic fatalities has increased, with 39 losses in 37 fatal accidents compared to 33 deaths in the previous year.

Police President Marco Bärtl emphasizes that excessive speed remains the main cause of serious accidents. The increase in fatal accidents due to too fast driving, which have doubled from five to twelve, is particularly worrying. In order to further increase traffic safety, targeted controls and prevention measures, such as speed measurements and special campaigns for young drivers and new means of transport, such as e-scooters are introduced. Despite the positive development overall, the work of the police remains essential to achieve the Vision Zero for traffic accidents.
