Vasundhara Raje: A Respected Figure in BJP Hierarchy

In a surprising turn of events, former state president Satish Poonia publicly acknowledged the immense contribution of former CM Vasundhara Raje to the BJP during a press conference in Barmer on Sunday. Despite being perceived as an arch rival of Raje in the past, Poonia emphasized Raje’s leadership and pivotal roles within the party.

Poonia highlighted Raje’s extensive political career, including her tenure as a central minister under Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s administration, two terms as the CM of Rajasthan, and her multiple stints as an MLA. He also mentioned her significant campaigning efforts, not only in the Jhalawar-Baran constituency for her son but also in adjacent constituencies.

During Poonia’s own tenure as party president from 2020 to 2023, there were tensions between him and Raje, leading to factionalism within the party. However, Poonia clarified that his loyalty to the party transcends personal aspirations, stating, „When we pledge allegiance to the party, we embrace responsibilities from Kashmir to Kanyakumari and from Kutch to Kamakhya, wherever the party deploys us.“

Moreover, Poonia expressed support for the new government led by Bhajan Lal Sharma, urging the populace to give them a chance to deliver substantial relief to the public. He also addressed the resignation of senior party leader Kirodi Lal Meena, noting that the matter is being handled by the central, state, and high command authorities.

It is evident that despite past differences, Satish Poonia’s acknowledgment of Vasundhara Raje’s leadership underscores her enduring influence and stature within the BJP hierarchy.
