Flood protection in the Prignitz: lack of money at risk of remediation of dike!
Representatives of the Bundeswehr and environmental authorities have inspected the flood protection measures along the Elbdeich near Wentdorf in Prignitz, where a metal pile wall over 600 meters has been renovated since May. Despite the positive progress in the dike renovation, which is supported with 3.3 million euros and is to be completed by May 2025, the financing raises the alarm: the federal government has shortened the funds for flood protection, which endangers the planning for necessary renovations in Wittenberge. "This is really a new development that makes you a bit speechless," says Bernd Lindow, head of the lower water authority. as reported by www.rbbb24.de .
In Müggendorf, it is also built strongly: a new flood protection wall was built, which should be completed by the end of the year. Nevertheless, with the increasing risk of flooding, the focus is not only on natural problems. "Almost 28 percent of the Elbe dike will not reach the required standards this year," warns Marko Oelze from the State Environment Agency, while the fear of additional damage from wild animals is growing.
